My name is Monika Bernard, I was born and grew up in WrocÅ‚aw, Poland. Currently I live in  Zurich, Switzerland. I love living in another country, to travel and be exposed to different cultures, people and surroundings, absorbing all it has to offer. However I sometimes realize that expat life is not nearly as glamorous as I often try to make it seem.

I do not get homesick all that much (thanks to Skype calls). I am also very lucky to have a family that is incredibly supportive of what I am doing. However there are times that you simply want to be HOME

...

and that brings me to the subject of my charity idea - HOME

Home is a foundation of your life, it not only the roof above your head, it is the place where your story begins, where you come back and you feel the most safe and comfortable.

Being deprived of having home is an extremely stressful situation, you loose the feeling of belonging somewhere, having a safe oasis.

That is why I am extremely sensitive to the problem of homelessness, especially if this affects young women with children .

I have decided to run the New York marathon on 5th of November 2017 to raise money for St. Albert Shelter for Homeless Women in WrocÅ‚aw and to support my local community in finding solutions to fight poverty by ending homelessness.
